Bed Bugs

Bed Bugs
Latin Name:Cimex Lectularius
Colour:Reddish-brown
Length:1-6mm long or the size of an apple pip
Batch size:200-500 eggs over a 2 month period feeding
Lifecycle: 45 day gestation period, can live up to 18 months

The Signs

How do you know you have bed bugs?

You will know that you have bed bugs as you will be encountering severe itching during the night, which is when nymphs and adults feed on human blood. They usually reside on mattresses, furnishings, and in cracks and crevices. They can survive on a surface for up to a year to 18 months without feeding and are resistant to most pesticides which is why you need a professional to deal with them.

Although they are barely visible to the naked eye, you can see them if you look closely. They will be a flattened oval shape, brown, resembling apple pips, about 1-6mm. You will also notice dark patches around corners and button holes of mattresses, along the edges of a bed frame or behind picture frames, where you may also find shedded skin casings. In extreme cases you may even see visible blood spots on your mattress from biting.
